Speaker of the House of Commons.
Until the 17th centuary the members of the house of commons viewed the Speaker as an agent of the crown, however as parliament evolved, especially since 1642, the Speaker position started to involve more duties to the House rather than to the Crown.
The Speaker of the House of Commons is voted by the MP’S and is supposed to be impartial. The role of the speaker is to mantain order in the chamber and and call other MPs to speak.
The current Speaker in the House of Commons is Michael Martin, who has recently been involved in a new expenses row. Inappropriate use of air miles, taxi expenses and living allowances are some of the claims towards Michael Martin.
